Bargain of the Week: SV650

The term best first big bike gets banded about the internet like a bouncy ball that's got all the kinetic energy of a hydrogen bomb. More often than not the bike at the top of the "best first big bike list" is this weeks offering.

However these suzuki SV's are so good I think that the term "best first big bike" is a little unfair, the SV650 is so much more than that. I should know, I own one, a k4 naked model. Some may say this makes me bias, I think it makes me informed.

When it appeared on the scene it was a revelation. It was cheap to run, reliable full of character and most of all fun! It was so good in fact its initial production run went on for 13 years! Even then suzuki still sold them after trying to change to the Gladius, and have now conceded defeat and brought back the SV650 in 2016.

The SV now competes in a very competitive market against the likes of the mt07 and er6. And even though its basically an old idea, (the engine is basically the same since it switched to injection) it can still go toe to toe with these completely new designs and hold its own..... visor down even said it bested the mt07 for ride and handling!

The SV is so fun its not just a "best first big bike" but a absolute bargain! Smiles per mile galore!! I challenge anyone not to enjoy swinging a leg over one and firing up that great v twin and taking it for a blast. Its one of those bikes everyone should try!! And at the price of under £1500! Everyone can!

This weeks bike has a few blemishes which could be easily sorted, stick a slip on can on it, and enjoy the noise!
